My WG24 stump grinder arrived well secured inside the steel frame. I especially like the steel bottom, and I made it into a 4-wheeled dolly using caster wheels so I can easily wheel the stump grinder around my garage floor (might be nice if there were an option to purchase dolly wheels at extra cost). That also greatly simplifies hooking up to the grinder. I first hook to the 3-point hitch, with the four caster wheels making alignment a snap. Then I lift the grinder off the steel bottom/dolly with the tractor and lower the grinder so it is about 1 inch above the concrete. Then I can easily hook up the PTO shaft without having to shorten the shaft, and since the grinding wheel is off the floor, it rotates easily, allowing for easy PTO shaft alignment. I am using a John Deere 3038E tractor, so the grinder fits the tractor very well. I do have to make sure the sway chains are tight after mounting, since that helps me control the location of the cutting and greatly reduces the sideways jerking. So far, I’ve ground off about 30 stumps – most of them to just below ground level as I have no need to till the land where the stumps are. I have found the WG24 to be very well engineered and constructed, and the instructions are also well done. I don’t grind too fast, and I’m careful to not grind more than about 2 inches each pass. The short wheelbase of the tractor, along with hydrostatic transmission, makes it easy to grind, keeping the grinding moving from left to right (as I’m turned around to watch). I find I can see just fine, and have no trouble controlling the depth or position of the machine on each pass.

awesome stump grinder already been thru 50 stumps and running strong some stumps over 30” round took some time but went thru them with no problem

I’ve now ground down about a dozen eucalyptus stumps, the largest about 5’ in diameter, about 18” high and rock hard. That single stump took about 3 hours of jarring work. I have a 35 hp New Holland tractor and because the stump was wider than I could span, I had to work around the edges to get to ground level before actually taking full passes across it. I think a heavier tractor would be helpful, as well as some dynamite. Only about 100 stumps to go! Having to twist my body and neck for long periods limits me to about 2 hours per session as I’m 69 years old, which is why I only gave it 4 stars, not the fault of the grinder.

Our stump grinder came with a scratch on it and the white logo paint stuck to the plastic covering but it works great. Instructions for cutting the PTO shaft were easy to understand and we had it mounted and running within just a few hours. It's got a bit of a learning curve but we have managed well. We never work without a "spotter" to have clear view of the grinder incase we hit a rock. The spotter can see the sparks when the operator can't. I can usually grind 10 stumps in 2 hours with sizes ranging from 4 to 12 inches diameter. Overall, it's a valuable tool for the job.
